SPD-SX System Program (Ver.1.09)


HOW TO FIND THE VERSION
Please check the current version of the system program on your SPD-SX before downloading the file.
  1. Press the [MENU] button.
    The MENU screen appears.
  2. Use the cursor buttons to select "UTIL", then press the [ENTER] button.
    The UTILITY screen appears.
  3. Use the cursor buttons to select "INFORMATION", then press the [ENTER] button.
    The INFORMATION screen appears.
  4. Look at the version number on the VERSION line.
    *If the latest version is shown, no update is necessary.

UPDATE HISTORY
[Ver.1.09] Mar 2023
  • We updated only the version number for administrative purposes.
    No changes affect product specifications.
[Ver.1.08] May 2018
Functionality Improvement
  • The SAVE function of the SPD-SX Special Edition now accommodates saving files larger than 4 GB.

Bug Fixes

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE UPDATE
CAUTION WHEN PERFORMING THE UPDATE
  • Never use this update on any other product than the SPD-SX, as it may harm other devices' data or system programs.
  • Never power off your SPD-SX while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the SPD-SX may not start up in normal operating mode, which requires servicing. If this occurs, contact the Roland service center near you.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program.

DOWNLOADING AND UNARCHIVING THE COMPRESSED FILE
  1. Read the software license agreement at the bottom of the screen and select the "I agree" check box.
  2. Click the "Download" button to download the system program (spdsx_sys_v109.zip).
  3. Unarchive the downloaded file.
    • Windows: Right-click the file and click "Extract All", then click "Extract".
    • macOS: Double-click the file to unzip it.
    "spdsx_sys_v109" folder appears.
  4. Open the "spdsx_sys_v109" folder and copy "_BOOTPRG.ES_" to the level displayed immediately on accessing the USB flash drive (the USB flash drive's root directory).
    *Never double-click "_BOOTPRG.ES_" displayed inside the folder after unarchiving or changing the file name.
    *Be sure not to copy the entire extracted folder.

UPDATE PROCEDURE
Caution
Never use this update on any other product than the SPD-SX, as it may harm other devices' data or system programs.
  1. Turn off the SPD-SX.
  2. Connect the USB flash drive containing the "_BOOTPRG.ES_" file to the USB MEMORY connector on the SPD-SX.
  3. Hold down the [ALL SOUND OFF], [QUICK], and [EXIT] buttons and turn on the SPD-SX.
    *Keep holding down the [ALL SOUND OFF] button, the [QUICK] button, and the [EXIT] button until "SPD-SX UPDATER" appears on display.
    The update starts automatically.
  4. When "Turn power off and on again" appears on display, turn off the SPD-SX.
  5. Remove the USB flash drive from the USB MEMORY connector.
  6. Turn on the SPD-SX and confirm it has been updated to the latest version.
