DJ-505 System Program (Ver.1.10)


How to know the version
Before you start, check the system program version of your DJ-505.

  1. While holding down the [rotary selector] in the Browser Section and turn on the power.
  2. The version information screen appears.
  3. After checking version of the product, power off the DJ-505 without performing any button operation.


Update history

Compatibility with Serato DJ Pro was confirmed (March 2018).

* To update the TR-S, a factory reset is required after applying the update data. For the procedure, refer to "Factory Reset."


What you will need to update your DJ-505
  • DJ-505
  • USB cable included with the DJ-505
  • A computer with a USB connector ( Windows, Mac )


Caution when performing the update
  • Never apply this update data to any product other than the DJ-505. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
  • Never power-off your DJ-505 while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the DJ-505 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

Getting the update file
Please open/extract the downloaded "dj202505_sys_110.zip" file on your computer to get the update file in the "dj202505_sys_110" folder.

Procedure for the update
Caution
  • You must not rename the extracted file.
  • Never turn off the DJ-505's power while the update is in progress. Otherwise the system program or the DJ-505 itself may be destroyed.

Please install the extracted system program file into your DJ-505 according to the following procedure.
  1. Hold down the [CLEAR] button and turn on the power.
  2. Connect the computer to the DJ-505's USB port by a USB cable.
  3. Open the "Roland" drive folder in your personal computer.
  4. Copy DJ202-505_C0A_up.bin in the "dj202505_sys_110" folder into the "Roland" drive by dragging and dropping it.
    * Do not copy the "dj202505_sys_110" folder.
  5. After copying the file is completed, remove the USB drive from the personal computer.
    With Windows
    Right-click on the "Roland" icon in My Computer and execute "Eject."
    With Mac
    Drag the "Roland" icon to the Trash icon in the Dock.

    * Depending on the computing setup you're using, ejecting the USB drive might cause the update to start.
  6. Disconnect the USB cable.
    The update starts automatically.
    The performance pads flash while the update is in progress.
    When the performance pads stay lighted, the update is complete.
  7. Detach the USB cable and turn off the power.
    * The performance pads might flash at the first startup after the update. This is not a malfunction; without turning off the power, wait for the unit to start up.


Factory Reset
To update the TR-S, the operation in "Returning to the Factory Settings (Factory Reset)" is required after applying the update data.
Executing the operation in "Returning to the Factory Settings (Factory Reset)" enables you to load the most recent tone data.
Please refer to the "DJ-505 Owner's Manual" for detailed information in the [ Owner's Manuals ].

* Executing the procedure in "Returning to the Factory Settings (Factory Reset)" causes the settings and patterns in the DJ-505 to be lost.
Before executing the procedure in "Returning to the Factory Settings (Factory Reset)," use the procedure in "Backup" to save any necessary data onto a computer.
* The data in "system settings" cannot be backed up. Before executing the procedure in "Returning to the Factory Settings (Factory Reset)," make a written note of any necessary items.

Backup
Here's how to back up all patterns and kits (instruments).
  1. While holding down the TR/SAMPLER [ CUE ] button, turn on the power.
    All TR-S pads and performance pads flash in green.
  2. Use a USB cable to connect the DJ-505 to your computer.
    All TR-S pads and performance pads light up in green.
  3. On your computer, open the "Roland" drive.
  4. Copy all files in the "BACKUP" folder to the computer.
  5. When copying is completed, operate your computer to eject the "Roland" drive.
    With Windows
    Right-click on the "Roland" icon in My Computer and execute "Eject."
    With Mac
    Drag the "Roland" icon to the Trash icon in the Dock.
  6. Disconnect the USB cable.
    All TR-S pads and performance pads return to flashing in green.
  7. Turn off the power to the DJ-505.

Returning to the Factory Settings (Factory Reset)
This returns all system settings, all patterns and kits (instruments) stored in the unit's memory to their factory defaults.
  1. While holding down the [ LOAD ] button in the left side (L channel) of the browser section, and press the [POWER] switch to turn on the power.
    The display indicates "FACR" and the [START/STOP] button of the TR-S section blinks.
  2. Press the blinking [ START/STOP] button.
    Factory reset begins.
    When the display indicates "CPLT" factory reset is complete.
    * Never turn off the power until the display indicates "CPLT."
  3. Turn the DJ-505's power off and then on again.

Restore
Here's how to restore the backed-up data from your computer to the DJ-505.
  1. While holding down the TR/SAMPLER [ CUE ] button, turn on the power.
    All TR-S pads and performance pads flash in green.
  2. Use a USB cable to connect the DJ-505 to your computer.
    All TR-S pads and performance pads light up in green.
  3. On your computer, open the "Roland" drive.
  4. Copy the backup files into the "Roland" drive's "RESTORE" folder.
  5. When copying is completed, operate your computer to eject the "Roland" drive.
    With Windows
    Right-click on the "Roland" icon in My Computer and execute "Eject."
    With Mac
    Drag the "Roland" icon to the Trash icon in the Dock.
  6. Disconnect the USB cable.
  7. Wait for all TR-S pads and performance pads to flash in green.
    * Never turn off the power until the TR-S pads and performance pads blinking green.
  8. Turn off the power to the DJ-505.
