Drum Sound Module

V71

The Centerpiece of the V-Drums 7 Series

The V-Drums 7 Series reimagines the world’s leading electronic drum platform with all-new sounds, easy instrument expansion, and enhanced creative tools. The V71 module is the beating heart of every V-Drums 7 Series kit, featuring a newly recorded onboard sound library created in collaboration with Drum Workshop (DW) and support for computer-based drumming with DW Soundworks software. The module also unlocks the advanced capabilities of our latest pads, including the PD-14DSX digital snare. And with built-in wireless connectivity and Roland Cloud Connect on your smartphone, you can instantly change up your sound with a growing library of V-Drums Instrument Expansions, Kit Packs, and more.

Prime redesign.

The V71 is the deepest and most advanced sound module we’ve ever produced. The famous hands-on V-Drums workflow remains, but everything else has been overhauled, rebuilt, and refreshed. Ultra-powerful DSP and greatly expanded waveform memory unlock a universe of creative expression never before possible. Preset changes, sound edits, and mix adjustments are smoother and faster than ever, thanks to the vivid color display, updated workflow features, tactile controls, and ergonomic panel layout.

Premium sounds, built from scratch.

The V71 module launches the V-Drums sound into a new dimension of realism and creative command. The onboard drum library has been created from the ground up with instruments never featured in any previous module. Crafted from a hand-picked selection of the world’s finest drum sets, these record-ready sounds deliver the detail, punch, and sonic quality found in the most expensive computer collections.

Recording process.

The V71 sound library was originally recorded and mixed at 32-bit/192 kHz resolution in pro studios around the globe, with intensive sessions manned by leading engineers who know how to capture incredible drum sounds. A large part of the collection was recorded in direct collaboration with DW in Oxnard, California, ensuring a seamless experience between the hardware module and the DW Soundworks software instrument.

Unrivaled expression.

Like top-tier drum sound libraries for computers, the V71 features multi-layer sample playback and round-robin randomization for natural sound with no “machine-gun” effect. Roland’s proprietary behavior modeling adds the finishing touch, refining the sound with smooth, artifact-free transitions for every articulation and over 16,000 variations in dynamic response with our digital pads.

New sounds, on demand.

While previous V-Drums modules offer deep editing capabilities, the onboard sound libraries are fixed and can’t be expanded. The V71 module changes all that, letting you freely change up the sound set for the first time. Open the Roland Cloud Connect app on your mobile device to access a growing range of V-Drums Instrument Expansion titles via your wireless network. Then, find the sounds you want, download them directly to the module, and start drumming immediately.

Roland Cloud membership included.

Purchasing the V71 module includes six months of the Roland Cloud Ultimate membership tier. This gives you untethered access to everything we offer, including V-Drums Instrument Expansions, V-Drums Kit Packs, DW Soundworks and related content, and more. Subscribe after the trial ends and stay up to date with our ever-expanding release roadmap. Or skip membership and keep your favorite selections forever with Lifetime Key purchases—the choice is yours.

Go deep with V-Edit.

All the built-in sounds and V-Drums Instrument Expansions come finely tuned and ready to play, with no adjustment necessary. But if you like to personalize the details, enhanced V-Edit tools let you dive deeper than ever. Virtually adjust any drum or cymbal just as you would an acoustic instrument, from head types, damping, and tuning to snare wire tension, mic distance, and much more.

Studio-grade processing.

The V71 is loaded with pro audio processing tools driven by our powerful new DSP engine. Shape each drum in fine detail with EQs and transient processors for each sound layer and an EQ and compressor for the combined sound. Route and process the full kit like an engineer on a large studio console using Bus FX to add vintage and modern multi-effects, reverb, and more. And with the new convolution-based ambience tools and overhead, room, and kit resonance options, you can produce everything from the upfront realism of the playing position to the immersive atmosphere of nearly any space.

V71 Editor.

V-Drums users have long requested a software-based editor, and now it’s here. Available as a free download on Roland Cloud, the V71 Editor extends your editing workflow with a large computer screen and mouse control. It works seamlessly with the onboard V-Edit tools, and your instrument changes are instantly reflected in both the module and editor software. The module’s audio processing tools are accessible as well, allowing you to shape tones with a similar workflow to music production software.

Sample import.

Sometimes, you need specific sounds to support an artist on tour. Or maybe you rely on a personal sample collection to reinforce your acoustic drums in studio productions. The module’s sample import function makes it easy to customize your palette and build any sound you can imagine. Each pad assignment provides three layers that can include any combination of internal sounds or external samples.

Wireless freedom.

The V71 features a built-in Roland wireless adapter that links with your network, letting you access Roland Cloud sound content directly via the Roland Cloud Connect app on a mobile device. Bluetooth audio/MIDI is also available, allowing you to jam with songs on your phone, play along with video lessons, wirelessly record MIDI in music software, and more.

Professional connectivity.

The V71 rear panel offers balanced outputs for professional audio connections, including XLR and 1/4-inch stereo main outputs and eight 1/4-inch direct outputs. Three high-speed trigger inputs support our advanced digital pads, while 14 analog trigger inputs offer full compatibility with standard V-Pads. There’s also a stereo mix input—perfect for blending in an external instrument such as an SPD series percussion pad—plus an assignable footswitch jack and an SD card slot for data backup, sample import, audio file playback, and recording.

Multi-channel audio and MIDI over USB.

Use the module’s integrated USB audio/MIDI interface to communicate with DW Soundworks, the V71 Editor, and other music software. And capture up to 32 audio channels in your DAW over a single cable. Traditional MIDI I/O is also available to connect with all types of MIDI hardware.
