SYSTEM-1m System Program (Ver.1.21)

This system program updates the SYSTEM-1m system program to the latest version 1.21.

How to tell the version
Please check the version of the system working on your SYSTEM-1m before downloading the archive file.
  1. Hold down [ LEGATO ] button, and switch on the power.
    The [ LFO KEY TRIG ] button flash.
  2. If the following four controls in the SYSTEM-1m panel display do not light up, carry out an update.
    • The LFO [ Wave knob ] are illuminated.
    • The LFO [ FADE TIME ] knob are illuminated.
    • The LFO [ FILTER ] knob are illuminated.
    • The LFO [ RATE ] knob are illuminated.
  3. After checking version of the product, power off the SYSTEM-1m without performing any button operation.

  • The headphone level was adjusted properly. As a result, the [BOOST] mode was unnecessary.

What you will need to update your SYSTEM-1m
  • SYSTEM-1m
  • AC adaptor
  • USB cable
  • A computer with a USB connector ( Windows 8 / 7 / Vista, MacOS X )


Caution when performing the update
  • Never apply this update data to any product other than the SYSTEM-1m. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
  • Never power-off your SYSTEM-1m while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the SYSTEM-1m won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.


Getting the update file
Please open/extract the downloaded "sys1m_sys_v121.zip" file on your computer to get the update file in the "sys1m_sys_v121" folder.

IMPORTANT : Data Backup / Restore
Updating to version 1.21 initializes all data saved in the SYSTEM-1m's patch memory.
To keep existing created data, follow the procedure in "Backup" to back up the data before carrying out the update.
After updating, you can restore the original content of the patch memory by following the procedure in "Restore" to restore the data.

Backup
  1. Hold down [ LFO KEY TRIG ] and switch on the power.
  2. Connect your computer to the SYSTEM-1m's USB port via USB cable.
  3. Open the "SYSTEM-1M" drive folder on your computer.
  4. Copy the SYSTEM-1m Memory files in "BACKUP" folder into your computer.
    SYSTEM-1m : SYSTEM1M_PATCH1.PRM - SYSTEM1M_PATCH8.PRM
    PLUGOUT : PLUGOUT_PATCH1.PRM - PLUGOUT_PATCH8.PRM
    * PLUGOUT_xxx.PRM files are displayed only when the SYSTEM-1m used as a plug-out synthesizer.
  5. After copying is completed, disconnect the USB cable.
    With Windows 8 / 7 / Vista
    Right-click on the "SYSTEM-1M" icon in My Computer and execute "Eject."
    With Mac OS
    Drag the "SYSTEM-1M" icon to the Trush icon in the Dock.
  6. Turn the SYSTEM-1m power off.

Restore
  1. Hold down [ LFO KEY TRIG ] and switch on the power.
  2. Connect your computer to the SYSTEM-1m's USB port via USB cable.
  3. Open the "SYSTEM-1M" drive folder on your computer.
  4. Copy the SYSTEM-1m memory files into the "RESTORE" folder.
  5. After copying is completed, disconnect the USB cable.
    With Windows 8 / 7 / Vista
    Right-click on the "SYSTEM-1M" icon in My Computer and execute "Eject."
    With Mac OS
    Drag the "SYSTEM-1M" icon to the Trush icon in the Dock.
  6. After the LFO [ FILTER ] knob and OSC 1 [ COLOR ] knob have completely stopped blinking, turn off the power.


Procedure for the update
Caution
  • You must not rename the extracted file.
  • Never turn off the SYSTEM-1m's power while the update is in progress. Otherwise the system program or the SYSTEM-1m itself may be destroyed.

Please install the extracted system program file into your SYSTEM-1m according to the following procedure.
  1. Hold down FILTER [ LPF TYPE ] button and switch on the power.
    LFO [ LFO KEY TRIG ] button, OSC 2 [ RING ] button, MIXER [ OSC TYPE ] button and MIXER [ NOISE TYPE ] button flash.
  2. Connect the computer to the SYSTEM-1m's USB port by a USB cable.
    Only the LFO [ LFO KEY TRIG ] button flashes.
  3. Open the "SYSTEM-1M" drive folder in your personal computer.
  4. Copy SYSTEM1M_UPD.BIN in the "sys1m_sys_v121" folder into the "SYSTEM-1M" drive by dragging and dropping it.
    * Do not copy the "sys1m_sys_v121" folder.
  5. After copying the file is completed, remove the USB drive from the personal computer.
    With Windows 8 / 7 / Vista
    Right-click on the "SYSTEM-1M" icon in My Computer and execute "Eject."
    With Mac OS
    Drag the "SYSTEM-1M" icon to the Trush icon in the Dock.
  6. Disconnect the USB cable.
    The OSC 2 [ RING ] button lights.
  7. Press the OSC 2 [ RING ] button to start updating the file.
  8. After updating processing is completed, LFO [ LFO KEY TRIG ] button, OSC 2 [ RING ] button, MIXER [ OSC TYPE ] button and MIXER [ NOISE TYPE ] button flash.
  9. Turn the SYSTEM-1m power off.
    Please verify the version number with the procedure described in "How to tell the version" part of this document.
  10. When the update has finished, follow the procedure below to execute a factory reset.
    1. Hold down the MEMORY [ WRITE ] button and press the LFO [ LFO KEY TRIG ] button.
      LFO [ LFO KEY TRIG ] button flashes.
    2. Again hold down the MEMORY [ WRITE ] button and press the LFO [ LFO KEY TRIG ] button.
      The entire panel display flashes. When the flashing ends, the factory reset is finished.
